On 12 June 2025, NNP1PC welcomed a distinguished delegation led by Ms. Miyako Kobayashi, the Chief Representative of JICA Laos. JICA Laos has contributed to the development of Laos’ energy sector for several decades, supporting initiatives such as the formulation of Lao Electric Power Technical Standard (LEPTS). The visit showcased the important role of hydropower in Laos, often referred to as the “Battery of Southeast Asia,” and reaffirmed our commitment to sustainable energy development in the region.
During the visit, the delegation toured key facilities including the main dam, powerhouse, and resettlement village established for communities relocated during the project’s construction. Our team presented the comprehensive initiatives undertaken throughout the project such as construction, plant operation and equipment management.
We also highlighted our ongoing community support activities, such as the development of public infrastructure and agricultural training programs aimed at improving villagers’ livelihoods. These efforts reflect our commitment not only to energy generation but also to contributing positively to the socio-economic development of local communities.
The visit also provided an opportunity for constructive discussions with JICA Laos regarding future collaboration and knowledge-sharing in areas such as community development and project management.
As a key player in cross-border electricity exports from Laos, we remain dedicated to working alongside international institutions including JICA, JBIC and ADB to support the sustainable growth of Laos’ energy sector and contribute to the region’s energy security.
