Construction Monitoring

The Environmental Management Office (EMO) Team at NNP1 works with contractors and government environmental agencies to constantly monitor and supervise work at the various construction sites to ensure that international standards are observed.

Unfortunately construction of the hydropower plant involves the clearing of some forest and modified habitat, but the project has been designed to have avoid damaging forest of high biodiversity value.

The EMO team inspects construction sites and camps regularly to ensure that workers are not encroaching into forests and onto other land outside the project boundaries. The team also checks water quality across the site to ensure that natural courses and drinking water supplies are not contaminated by building activities or camp effluents.

Other activities include:

  • NNP1-sponsored patrols to control hunting and logging
  • Enforcement of Site-Specific Management and Monitoring Plans
  • NNPI Contractor Compliance Monitoring
  • NNP1 Environmental Monitoring Program
  • Construction Area Management
  • Noise and Blasting Management
  • Air Emissions Management
  • Worker Camp and Labour Management
  • Solid Waste and Waste Water Management
