Water Quality Monitoring at Nam Ngiep 1 Hydropower Project

To ensure water quality especially during impounding water of the main dam and re-regulation dam, the Environmental Monitoring Team of Nam Ngiep 1 Power Company Limited (NNP1PC) and Hom District’s Environment Monitoring Unit of Xaysomboun Province monitor water quality at seven stations to assess the level of turbidity and dissolved oxygen.  These two parameter are essential for aquatic organisms.

The weekly joint mission found that the water quality meet the set guidelines.

Water samples collected from Nam Ngiep 1 Hydropower Project areas are analyzed at the laboratory on site by using advanced equipment and performed by qualified personnel.  The laboratory can analyze five parameters such as Total Suspended Solid, Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Fecal Coliform, Total Coliform, and Ecoli Bacteria. Analysis on other chemical parameters is conducted in a neighboring country.

In addition, the Environmental Monitoring Team also conducts the monthly water quality monitoring of waste water discharges from camps, active construction sites and landfills as well as the water from boreholes and water supply systems in nearby villages.
