June 7, 2020 Dr. Sinava Souphanouvong, Vice Minister of Energy and Mines and his delegates from the central and Bolikham Provincial level visited the Nam Ngiep 1 Hydropower Project (NNP1 Project) in Bolikhan District, Bolikhamxay Province, Lao PDR in order to monitor and inspect NNP1 Project’s preparedness for this rainy season.
During the visit, Mr. Toshihiro Takano, the Managing Director of Nam Ngiep 1 Power Company Limited and technicians briefed the visitors about the background of the NNP1 Project and confirmed that the Project is prepared to prevent risks that might happen in this rainy season.
Mr. Takano also explained that the construction of NNP1 Project was monitored and inspected by external technical experts. To ensure dam safety and stability, more than 200 equipment instruments have been installed, and emergency preparedness plan and notification system have been in place to respond to potential risks that might pose to downstream communities during water release.
During the visit, Dr. Sinava Souphanouvong exchanged is ideas and encouraged the Project to pay even more attention to dam safety in order to avoid risks. He then visited the main dam and the main powerhouse
The construction of the 290-Megawatt NNP1 Project started in late 2014 and was completed in 2018 and the Commercial Operation Date began on September 5th, 2019.
